Among the many fabulous sites of Cappadocia are the Fairy Chimneys. These strange, nature-made rock formations dot the Cappadocian valley for miles. They were formed by lava flows that covered the land while a little earth, wind, and fire (not the musical group popular in the 70′s), did the rest.
The largest cluster of these natural wonders can be found in the aptly named Fairy Valley (between Çavu?in and Uçhisar). Many a tour bus pass through this valley and I can only imagine how overloaded the valley gets during peak tourist season( I went in Nov and it was pretty empty ). So, either go really early or very late.
To really see Cappadocia in all it’s glory, I would recommend renting yourself a car. You can find one in Göreme for about 70 TL, probably more in the Summer. And if you don’t mind forking over a tidy sum for gas, you can cruise the Cappadocian region pretty well in 1 day. There are tons of tours too but they can quickly add up for budget travellers.
