Solo travel and Iceland seem to go hand in hand. Both are lonely and stark. While Iceland is full of volcanoes, mountains, vast plains, lava fields, hot springs, no sunlight (in winter)and the occasional crater, traveling alone can be filled with a desolate plain or deep crater, and darkness. Wow- how did this post suddenly get so macabre?? Let me digress…Reykjavik is definitely a city that someone solo can meet some friends in between pints while exploring the countryside lends itself to a more individual experience. I have traveled alone to many places but think Iceland is much better suited in pairs or groups as this amazing country with all of its natural wonders should be shared and passed around, not stored in a solo traveler’s memory. See my collection of other solo trips from Thailand to Dubai.
