The Canary Islands, are a beautiful Spanish island chain off the NW coast of Africa and are considered a ‘must-see before you die destination’.

The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is a top tourist destination for visitors from around the globe. The “Island of Eternal Spring”, as it is known, is a prime holiday destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Miles of beaches, mountain trekking and believe it or not, pyramids are just a few of the attractions that Tenerife offers.

Beaches of Tenerife
From popular hot-spots to remote coves, black sand to golden sand, sand to pebbles, Tenerife has a beach for all. Playa Socorro is a popular black-sand beach with gently rolling waves in the shallows that grow to such a height that surfers abound. For a pebble beach with rock pools and coves, head on over to Playa de las Arenas which lies right below the Teno Cliffs. For the really adventurous, there is Roque Bermejo which can only be accessed by boat but provides visitors with blue waters and seclusion. For those who prefer golden sand beaches there are Playa de las Teresitas and El Midano which has a wooden boardwalk along almost the whole length of the beach and is popular for kite boarding.

Get there early for a spot!

Teide National Park
The world’s third largest volcano is located in Teide National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well. Visitors can trek the extinct volcano by foot or by riding a cable car which carries guests almost to the top. On a clear day visitor can see Gran Canaria, El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera.

The Pyramids of Güimar
Who says one has to travel to Egypt to see pyramids? The Pyramids of Güimar are six terraced structures that have been built from lava stone with no mortar. These structures, of which there were once nine, have been linked to agricultural purposes and teenager lust fests.

Wholly Pyramid Batman!

Dolphin and Whale Spotting Excursions
Tenerife is a main migration route for dolphins as well as whales. Tours take visitors on boating excursions where flipper and all of his friends play in the crystal blue spray. You will be sure to see Bottle-Nosed Dolphins, Pilot Whales, Sperm Whales and White Whales.

Siam Park
Kids and adults will all have a blast at the largest water park in Europe. At 30 Euro a ticket, thrill seekers will appreciate the 28-metre plunge of Tower of Power or experiencing zero gravity on The Dragon. Those who prefer a more peaceful afternoon will appreciate the 24c peaceful blue waters of Siam Beach.

Waterpark or Ocean? Ocean or waterpark?

Other fun things to do in Tenerife include visiting Jungle Park, seeing the Cave of the Wind, windsurfing, kite boarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, horseback riding, and of course, laying around and doing nothing, my personal favorite.

I was just having a discussion with somebody yesterday about where the Canary Islands are. Now I know.
