SE Asia is know for many things, it’s inviting cultures, it’s cheap beach holidays, and it’s sublime beaches. The choices are endless but with a little research and tenacity, you can find yourself on some of the best if not secluded beaches in this region of the world. Here is a list of some of the best (and unique) beaches in Southeast Asia.
- Phuket, Thailand. The most famous island in Thailand is Phuket. , has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Ranging from almost completely deserted to jam packed, these beaches have something for everyone and there are over 30 beaches to choose. Especially popular with older European sun bathers baking to a nice char.
- Boracay, Philippines. Boracay’s white sand beaches are simply unmatched when it comes to breathtaking views. The small island in the Philippines offers everything a vacationer needs quality International restaurants, amazing resorts and beautiful beaches.
- Hoi An, Vietnam. Maybe not the best beach in Southeast Asia aesthetically, but it’s located in one of the coolest cities in the region. Hoi An is one of the few cities in Vietnam not damaged during the American war (yes, that is how they refer to it). The charming architecture and endless tailor shops make the city a large tourist destination. The local beaches are a great reprieve while waiting for your custom made clothing to be completed.
- Lombok, Indonesia. Bali’s sister island has all the beaches without the crowds. This small Indonesian island has not shortage of resorts located beachfront. Enjoy a dip in the sea with a massage on the sand for a few dollars.
- 4,000 islands, Laos. When most people think beaches they think the ocean. In the landlocked nation of Laos the ocean is not an option but the Mekong River more than makes up for it. Located in the south of the country 4,000 islands offers an amazing retreat. The dirt cheapaccommodation and sunset cruises through the islands make this a unique and unforgettable experience.
- Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Cambodia’s second largest city and only deep water port has some of the cheapest and best beaches in Southeast Asia. Lounging on a beach chair all day will not break your budget as you purchase 50 cent beers and $1 grilled lobster. Top it all off with a little island hopping and you have the ideal beach vacation.
- Georgetown, Malaysia. Geared more towards the upscale traveler Georgetown is an experience soon not to be forgotten. This Malaysian island offers 5 star resorts next door to a charming city environment. The city of Georgetown is filled with historic attractions including but not limited to their very own fort. Learn a little about the nation’s history prior to your visit and you will be entranced by this city.
- Lake Khovsgol, Mongolia. This destination is not for the faint of heart as it may take you several days of very rough roads to get there. However, once you have arrived you will completely forget the hardship undertaken getting you here. Mongolia’s largest freshwater lake is a destination not many will ever get to but those who have will never forget. Crystal clear water offers panoramic views leaving even the largest skeptics short of breath.
- Bali, Indonesia. This very famous beach island is famous for a reason and makes everyone want to quite the rat race and live here. The beaches are beautiful and the nightlife is infamous. Aussies know the island well and supply a nonstop energy day and night that makes this destination a partiers dream come true.
- Cat Ba Island, Vietnam. Located in the middle of Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay the journey to the island is even more beautiful than the island itself. Ha Long Bay is without a doubt one of the world’s most beautiful places. This small island is located in the middle of the Bay and makes a great stopover for a few nights. The island is mostly visited by local Vietnamese tourists so it is littered with delicious eateries.
