Travel blogs are almost a necessity for anyone planning RTW travel, or just interested in travel. They allow us to stay connected with nomadic friends or do research on upcoming trips or simply monitor those that have gone before us. They offer a wealth of information in terms of what not to do, where to go, what to wear, and how not to get ripped off.
With the help of RSS feeds and social media gadgets, you can follow multiple adventures at the same time and almost feel like you are a part of the trip. So, I am providing a few of my go-to travel blogs when I need inspiration, advice, or simply a laugh.
1. Tokyo Times- This blog is a quirky photo essay of all things bizarre in Japan. You name it, he has a photo of it and some snarky commentary. Since I lived in Japan in 2002, this blog brings me right back.
2. Nerdy Nomad- I like this blog cause she gives her readers the dollars and cents of earning an income on the road. She breaks down her monthly earnings so you can see that it is possible to follow in her footsteps.
3. Jill and Stacey Do the Roo- This is a new blog to me, but it is 100% Australia and what I really enjoy about their blog are the professional videos they have created. There is one on Aussie slang that is very cool. This is a must have blog for anyone remotely thinking of going to Ozzieland or just wants some nice Australia facts, check out this site.
4. No Debt World Travel- the title of this blog pretty much sums up what content you’ll find. I like the no BS approach to his articles.
5. I Should Log Off- There has been a trend of corporate cube monkies cashing out and embarking on a RTW trip. This blog is one such couple. They are planning 24 months in the big fat world. They ahve only just arrived from S. A. (Jan 2010), and have several more continents to get to. Join them!
6. Where The Hell is Matt?- I saw this guy’s dancing video a couple years ago and was hooked. He has traveled around the world dancing in each place he visits. The result? A sponsor for year 2. Yep, a gum company sponsored him to keep traveling and to keep making more videos. Check out his site and you’ll know why.
[UPDATE: My RTW travel has been re-energized and am planning for a May/June departure!!]
